Start at the Harlem Meer for the last afternoon of the Harlem Meer Performance Festival — the Ray Delgado Project — Free, 2–4 PM, on the plaza at the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center at the Park's north end. This is the sixth and final Sunday of the season. It is a lawn-chairs-and-families crowd rather than a scene, which is exactly why it works as an opener: nobody is performing at anybody, and you can talk.

Walk south through the Park, or duck up into Harlem to eat — You have three hours and roughly two and a half miles between the two stages, all of it inside the Park if you want it to be. We are not naming a restaurant here because we did not re-verify one this week and would rather say so than send you somewhere on a guess.

Angélique Kidjo at Rumsey Playfield, free, with Cimafunk — Free, 7–10 PM, no ticket, at Rumsey Playfield, with Cimafunk and DJ Freshy K. Five Grammys, and she plays SummerStage's 40th-anniversary season as part of the World Music Institute's Changemakers series — the series is WMI's, and SummerStage's own season runs on into the fall, so nothing is ending here except the Meer's. Free shows at this level fill the field early: treat the posted start as when the music begins, not when you should arrive.
Weather backup: If the Sunday weather turns, the same weekend's indoor equivalent is the Balloon Museum's DAYDREAM at the Tin Building in the Seaport — open until 10 PM Friday through Sunday, $40 a head, and completely weather-proof.

Ghetto Gastro, "Red Rice," in The Glade — Free. The Bronx-born culinary and design collective performing a storytelling piece that traces rice across cultures. It runs at 5 PM Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so if Friday doesn't work the same opener is there all weekend. Little Island carried a play two editions ago as well — different stage, different acts, and we would rather say so than let it pass as new.

Walk off the pier into the West Village or Meatpacking — Little Island sits at 13th Street on the Hudson, which puts you a few minutes from more dinner than we can responsibly name. We are pointing at the neighborhood rather than a table because we did not verify a specific room this week.

Papi Juice on The Play Ground stage — Also free. The Brooklyn queer and POC-centered DJ collective throwing an outdoor party on the water, with Ahya Simone, Kfeelz and Sterling Juan Diaz. No RSVP information was published, and free late-night things on a small island can queue — worth arriving before the hour.
Weather backup: If you want the middle of the evening filled too, Louis Cato's "Harlem Renaissance" plays the Amph the same night, 8:30–10:30 PM, and that one is ticketed at $25 — it slots neatly between the two free shows.

RUZE on the Elsewhere rooftop — From $20, 6–10 PM, 21+, 599 Johnson Ave — a few minutes from the Jefferson St and Morgan Ave stops. The rooftop is seasonal and this is a sunset-into-night set, so the early hours are the good ones.

LEO RISING at House of Yes, with Kyle Hall, Shaun J. Wright and TEE EM DEE — From $17, 10 PM, 2 Wyckoff Ave, 21+. A zodiac-themed full-production night — performers, activations, the works. It is about half a mile from the rooftop, nine minutes on foot. Know before you go: no re-entry, no refunds, and a no-phones policy on the dance floor.
Weather backup: If a 10 PM start is more night than you want, the rooftop runs until 10 on its own and is a complete evening by itself.
Saturday in Red Hook: a history talk on Valentino Pier, then the sunset

"Brooklyn 250: Red Hook's Role in the Battle of Brooklyn" at Louis Valentino Jr. Park and Pier — Free, outdoors, moderated by a host of the Bowery Boys history podcast, covering Red Hook's part in the battle and the newly researched Fort Defiance. No program length was published, so leave the rest of the evening loose.

Stay on the pier for the sunset, then walk into Red Hook — Valentino Pier looks straight at the harbour and the Statue of Liberty, and it is one of the few places in the city where the sunset is the whole view rather than a gap between buildings. The bars are a short walk inland.
Weather backup: If the talk is rained out, The Ark at Powerhouse Arts in Gowanus is open Saturday 11 AM–8 PM and closes for good on Aug 30 — and Royal Palms Shuffleboard is about four minutes' walk from it.
