Chicago — week of Thursday, August 6, 2026

Edition two. Saturday the 8th is the crowded one: LatiNxt on Navy Pier, the Ginza Holiday Festival in Old Town, the Windy City Comedy Fest filling four North Side rooms across Friday and Saturday, and the Pier's own ten-minute fireworks at 10 PM. The Saturday after, Grant Park closes its season with Beethoven's Ninth at 7:30, in the same park as a free swing lesson at 6. Two things we could not pin down this week — LatiNxt's set times and the Sangria Festival's street address — are linked rather than printed, on the theory that a wrong address is worse than a missing one.

Why it lands: Two stages, a mercadito, and a fireworks show that starts at 10 whether or not you're ready — all free, all on one pier. The only decision you two make is whether the night keeps going afterward.

Weather backup: The stages and the fireworks are outdoors, and the fireworks have no rain date. The indoor version of this night is dinner in River North and a set at Andy's, which runs nightly regardless. Check a forecast yourself before you commit to a lakefront evening — we don't publish one.

Why it lands: Three Windy City Comedy Fest shows land in Lakeview on the same Saturday, two of them a walk apart. You buy two tickets and the evening plans itself — and if the first set doesn't land, you're not trapped in the room for the rest of the night.

Weather backup: Every room here is indoors and ticketed, so weather is somebody else's problem. If two shows is one too many, buy the 7 PM and leave the back half of the night open.

Swing lesson, then Beethoven's Ninth

Why it lands: Two free stages in one park on the last Saturday of the Grant Park season: a swing lesson at 6, the Ninth at 7:30. If you're already downtown for the Air and Water Show that day — 10:30 to 3 at North Avenue Beach — this is where the day goes next.

Weather backup: Both stops are outdoor lawns with no indoor equivalent on site. If the sky turns, the swap is dinner and a nightly set at Andy's Jazz Club in River North, times permitting. Check the forecast yourself before committing; this one is entirely outside.
